What a commotion in the Netherlands around the recently published Dutch Nashville statement. Dutch pastors and politicians even face threat of criminal prosecution because of the statement.

Even churches and Christians are speaking out against the Nashville statement. Some churches even raise the LGBT rainbow flag. It clearly shows the move of the Dutch Christian landscape into a more post-evangelical one while slowly leaving behind the 5 solae principles.
Its makes me sad because I believe that the statement clearly states what the bible and therefore God says about this subject. Hebrew 4:12 states that the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. That’s not always pleasant. Very often scripture acts as a mirror that shows us what’s good or bad in our live – according to Gods standards that do not change. Besides that God is love, the bible also teaches us that God is holy and righteous.
The public statement is a clear message that is needed after the developments from the past decades. The open letter from hundreds of Dutch pastors in which they state that same-sex marriage is not a problem in their church is just an example of that. It’s needed to see the things right. Its “black or white” as Avalon sings in their song “Give It Up”: “The choice is black or white, not a shade of gray”.
Do not get me wrong. I believe the statement is foremost targeted towards Christians or those who call themselves a Christian. Freedom of speech, lifestyle including the right to sexuality are principles that also Christians see as very important. But the bible also states: “whatever a man sows, this he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). Let’s search our own hearts as David writes in Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”
